Hingham Estate Planning, Probate, and Estate Contest Representation
As a Hingham estate planning attorney, I offer dedicated estate planning assistance to clients to help protect their assets during life, as well as to provide for contingencies such as a significant medical disability in which a person may need a trusted guardian to act on their behalf to manage their assets and lifestyle. Estate planning is also helpful to plan for the ultimate distribution of assets, and to take into account matters such as tax minimization and whether a trust may be helpful for beneficiaries.
In addition to initially preparing an estate plan, it’s also critical to make sure that the plan is updated, particularly to take into account matters such as marriage, divorce, or other family changes. Further, it is also important to update powers of attorney, as often financial institutions may not readily accept powers of attorney that are more than a two or three years old.

Probate and Estate Administration
Typically, those serving as an estate administrator will be doing so for the first time. If you are serving in this capacity, I can help you by answering your questions, representing you and the estate in court, preparing and filing the necessary legal paperwork, assisting in asset transfers, and otherwise helping you to fulfill your duties.

Will Contests and Estate Disputes
I represent beneficiaries, administrators, and trustees, in estate administration contests. I understand the critical need to preserve family relationships and assets, and seek to develop solutions consistent with client objectives without litigation whenever possible. If such a solution is not forthcoming, I provide experienced litigation in seeking to obtain client objectives or defend administrators and trustees against claims of wrongdoing.

When estate planning is being undertaken at the same time that a person is separated or getting a divorce, it is critical that the person engaging in estate planning fulfill their other obligations concerning asset disclosure in connection with the divorce or separation. A person may not simply shield their assets from a divorce by creating and transferring their assets to a trust, or otherwise giving away assets.more...
